Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

W4w said she was feeling brain dead. The cartoon seemed to fit.
Idk how much snow I have, but the fire ring, solar lights, triple cinder blocks, the barrel laying on its side, and more than half of the barrels next to it are covered.

I believe we will dodge the worst of the storm. it will be dreadful to the east and south. we'll get 6-8" for sure, but that's nothing for the mountains, we have good snow removal for the most part... and, I don't get to do the new route tomorrow after all. the carrier who was going to cover my route now has to cover the senior carrier in her office, and I have to cover her route since she's been pulled away... (Prima Donna won't work in the storm) so I cancelled the new route, rescheduled for Thursday - that particular office is just over the line into another county, their mail comes from Westchester, way way downstate. they got an emergency shut down today. all the offices closed at 3, all the carriers were pulled off their routes by 3... that never happens up my way. even Hurricane Irene only shut us down for 2 days, and we lost 80% of our roads and bridges... we couldn't reach most of our customers, but we were still out there... so anyway, that new route in Roxbury might not have work tomorrow.

I stocked up on all kinds of chicken stuff just in case we do get a foot of snow, it might take me a few days to get to plowing the yard, and then I can't drive up to the shed to unload... hauling 50# bags across snow and ice. nope. I got a months worth. then I picked up the EGGS!

Silkie, Marans, EE and a lot of surprises for hatchtime. I will not give them all out unless another hen or 2 catch the broody bug. but I will give all the dark brown and blue/green for sure!
there are a dozen bantam eggs. Gossy has 8 of them. I have 4 left in case any break in the first 2 days. or for Esther if she fancies it...

she's so happy Big Broody can have her eggs tomorrow night, I have to make some modifications to her igloo or kennel, whichever she picks, so I can block others out.
and....

music lessons will begin as soon as possible! Brutus is my main pupil, but I am interested in anyone who will peck at it! it's so cute and really crappy, some of the keys are really flat (as opposed to sharp, or even on key), but that will just make it funnier.

Yup. Cartoon fits me to a T, especially lately.

She's already mothering those eggs. Love the nest material!

My Silkie has been broody since before Christmas. A couple of Serama are keeping her company and several more are spending extra time on the nest. Nests are prime real estate in the bantam coop! It's even worse now that the 3 pullets (2 orps and a marans) have moved in with the bantams. They are such docile chickens that I didn't think they would do well with the big girl mob, so now my biggest chickens are in with the smallest. The marans has started laying, not super dark brown, but on par with my Welsummer. Planning a new nest box on the back of the coop. Thinking of just one big community box so the orps can fit!

Lynnc I don't think it's bad to bring them into your basement but i would worry that the change in temp could affect them (cold to warm to back to cold).

We only got 10.5". I wanted the 28" we were predicted on Sunday. But then realized that not everyone has the conveniences we have (wood stoves, work from home, etc...).

Chickens aren't happy. I shoveled some area for them. But I did give them food and water in the coop.

Take the water out at night--moisture in the air adds to frost bite.

So I just came in from shoveling and cleaning the run and the coop, fresh hay and bringing the girls back outside. I put the waterer and feeder just outside the coop door and left it open. They do NOT want to be out in this! Now to clean the poopie basement floor!

It's 3:15 and my girls finally decided to come out and see what is going on in the world.
