Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

There was not a thing in side it....it was round'ish with the two sides stuck together no hole in it..and the other two have really hard shells..oh well

The egg missed the shell gland is all. It happens sometimes and is nothing to worry about.

Ron, you're going to be waiting a real long time for all those cockerels to lay!

Love the Australorps. I had to put down my hatchery A'lorp last week.

Matilda had a prolapsed cloaca that got worse. I miss her. Such a good hen.

Remember my troubles with the 3 pullets that I got from up north that had the respiratory disease? Those were culled and luckily it did not spread beyond those 3 babies. Got the placements a couple of months later, 2 Orps and a Marans. The Orps are getting BIG, especially the cuckoo. The jubilee (project) has leg stubble that I suspect is from strong Cochin influence and the Marans (also project, but not sure what exactly

) is a nice bird and has been laying for over a month now. Her eggs are medium dark (like a Welsummer color) and the shell quality is beautiful, but the eggs are so small and aren't getting bigger. They are the size of my bantam Cochin eggs! Do you know if Marans are known for laying small eggs?
Lola the Marans.

Buster Posey (cuckoo) and Figgy Pudding (jubilee).
This pic was a month or so ago. Both the Orps are more red with bigger combs and wattles. Maybe some eggs soon!

The Australorps are three pullets and three cockerels.

The TJ's chicks are 6 that will make be breakfast and 9 that will be dinner.

It was very funny watching the little cockerels facing off at each other.

I am very happy that you were able to get replacements for the sick ones and very happy that they did not make your flock sick.

Are you going to get another Australorp? I will always have a couple of them in my flock.

Yes, maybe next year I will have room for another Australorp or 2. Not sure I want to get more hatchery birds though, so I will have to find a source.
Mrs. B from Texas is going to ship me some hatching eggs this year. I may have an extra pullet or two--if they hatch well.

Hello all, I haven't been on for a few days due to a mix of personal stuff and pure laziness ;) The heating went off in the house on Friday and the only guys I can find to fix it are booked up until at least Wednesday, sigh... It's about 5 degrees Celsius so I know you guys are dealing with a lot worse however two duvets are still nesessary!
I'm off this week though so it's not too bad :)
Cheeka, how are the eggs going?

By the way we reckon the cream egg was from Babs; when we cracked it the shell was very thin which is very common in her eggs, it is bizarre though, her shells are always thin even though there is always grit - Zazzles' shells are soooo thick! :)
I don't know....

Mortie - I Feel you pain

That's about all my news, I'm getting one egg a day currently, Babs it seems, is also on holiday. No eggs from the little ones. Seriously though if you are selling hens as POL at twenty weeks, don't you dare then tell me that it can take up to fifty for these two to lay, that is pure deception. POL should mean that these hens are going to lay, or will lay in the next few weeks NOT that they are going to need to double there age and then some before they are even close to laying.

Both are over forty weeks and combs aren't even as red as the Roos in Ronotts video, when they hit fifty weeks I'm apologising in advance for the serious wrath I will unload. I love those girls but seriously, I JUST WANT MORE THAN AN EGG A DAY.

It's over the line when I could have bought chicks and raised them and they would have layed faster than these two.

Rant mode is offline.

I can't remember if I posted yesterday or not...6/6 which surprised me. Good chickens! I should really make them some pie. Right now they're doing good if they get feed. It's SO COLD. It's not warming up from the single digit highs until like the 23rd.

I can't even.
