Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I'm so scared that I give my chicks lots of food but at the same time I'm scared that I don't give them enough

Mine free feed. I fill their 7 lb feeder up when it's empty and they can chose how much to eat. They have access to both food and water 24 hrs a day. They don't over eat and I know I'm not underfeeding them so that works for me. It doesn't work for everyone, though.

This is based off memory, and judging by the amount of times I forgot to buy something I need at the shops this could be completely wrong and I am always looking to learn - take it with a pinch of salt,

Chickens are quite good at monitoring their food intake, they base it on protein. A chicken will only get over weight (excluding Cornish X) if they are fed food containing low amounts of protein as the have to eat more to satisfy proteins levels. They will only get underweight if you feed to high protein feed as they don't have to each much. This is only general though and as we are dealing with a living species there will always be exceptions, chickens that are just simply fat or thin. As long as you are giving store bought food I would just fill up and let them decide how much they eat.

I fill up in the morning and top up roughly every other day when it empties

I think you'll find that they will. Chickens are often HIGHLY suspicious of new things and sometimes it takes mine hours to decide to try a new food I put out for them. Eventually they will eat it. At least that's been my experience.

we have a large feeder and dh fulls it in the morning then again at night as we think they eat most before left out in the morning, we have a light that comes on at 5 am so they can eat and run around in the coop for 4 hrs before opening the doors to let them out, we got 25 eggs today, still waiting for the 43 eggs, not sure what i would do with all of them.

FIVE!!! Today we laid FIVE!!! It has been a good week for eggs so far. FIVE today... FIVE yesterday and SIX on Tuesday.

The chicks are growing like weeds and Rumples is off the nest hobbling around with her babies.

It has been crazy busy with DH out of town and now the dog is sick. I was so worried about Cody that I took him to work with me. He went to the vet and we upped his pain meds and put him on anti inflammatory meds. It sucks when a pet get old. It just breaks my heart. The good thing is ... the vet says that Cody is a very spoiled dog and has a great life.

Anyone collecting green eggs for Dr Seuss's birthday? My son's school has a big program, so my two Easter eggers are tasked with getting me a dozen by next Friday!
