someone has resumed! the lighter egg is Cressa's, the Silkie/RIR mix. the darker is ??? probably one of the older hens, Thelma or Louise. not necessarily Portia's - she's such a tiny hen, if that is hers, it would be a double yolker... anyway... I'm happy and if I had made it outside a bit earlier, I would have had 6 eggs today. but I was slow and 1 was cannibalized.

Good morning! I had a lovely nap from 12 to 3:30 am. Yay! Better luck tonight, I hope. In chicken news, I had my first hen and after 3 days of isolation, she is off the nest. (DH informed me I have met my chicken quota. He's probably right. I like to say, "ONLY fifteen...that's not that many.")

I hear ya Darina. I have major sleep issues too.

No eggs here yet, but it is still early. I have 9 hens now, but I really need to thin the flock down. That's a lot of poop to deal with. I would like an Oliver Egger though. Maybe a Welsummer or BCM pullet too. Having colorful eggs put a smile on my face.

we moved chickens around this morning, now have 18 hens in the new coop going to get delaware blues 1 rooos and 2 hens, then have 1 roos and 29 hens in new camper coop. had them in big camper for couple years but saw mold last week so we had to get them out, man is coming tomorrow or wed to pull old camper out then we can back new camper in yard, have to put up a part of fence too make 2 yards, after we get fence up we may put up a plywood fence for now so they don't try to get back in or fight through fence, we will see how it works but hope all is done by sat or sun, poor chicks will not come out with snow on ground, i hope it is gone soon we have had it with snow and so have the chicks, i guess we will not get as many eggs tomorrow, may take till sat or sun to get back to laying right. i did see one hen has a glub of poop on her rear, anyone ever have this wondering how to get it off, i got a small part off but she has a lot, ( what can i do to get it off )

gilcamp, you can bathe your poopy-butt chicken. Warm water in a tub and a little soap. Towel dry as much as possible, finish with a blow dry or heat lamp. People who show bathe them before competitions. Never thought I would do it until one of mine got a yeast infection (vent gleet) and was constantly wet with nasty smelly stuff dripping down her backside.

A poopy butt can be an indication of illness or disease, so you should rule that out. My little Cochins have super fluffy rear ends that frequently get poop stuck in the fluff. It is dry though, and only in a small area. I usually just pull those bits off or trim the fluff with scissors.

Hope your hens aren't too put out from being shuffled around and start laying soon.

thank you w4w i will try that, i have had chickens for years, first was in nj for 4 years and a dog killed them all, now here in delaware i have had them for 5 years, this is the first time i ran into this, i went out to see how they are doing at 5: and chickens in camper coop have taken to sleeping in nest, 10 of them, we have a roost higher then the nest boxes also shelves on top of the nests which have about the same amount on them, dh said he would cover nests about 4:00pm, but then they lay before we get out there in the morning,
