Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

We are so close to a perfect day! Molting is done... Now to just get them all to lay on the same day. It's close... I can feel it! I have 10 girls. Fingers crossed - my friend just set some Cream Legbars. Then we will have blue eggs too.

Today also completed my dozen green eggs for Dr Seuss day! 4 days early. Good girls!

Hey lady.... Got treats?

After weeks of hoping and waiting, one of my girls laid one on Sunday!! Right in the nesting box next to a pool ball I had put there the day before :)
She laid a second one on Monday but nothing today- is that normal? I'm hoping the other two girls will soon follow by example, they're all 21 weeks but they look much less mature.

Congrats.

Yes it is normal. Most chickens don't lay daily, especially not when they're first starting out. Your other girls make start laying soon, or they may not. The presence of a bird that is laying (or layer feed or fake eggs in the nest) won't have any effect. Chickens can't choose to ovulate any more than people can. It happens when their bodies are ready.

Enjoy your fresh eggs!

I the type of person who sometimes has to whine and complain even though I know darn well it won't do any good ;) I knew all of the things I just said... But it made me feel better to come around here and cry about it. My non chicken friends just don't understand.

I wasn't trying to come off sounding mean so I hope it didn't come across that way. I haven't had my coffee yet...

Chookas- if you want to see what she is talking about, go back to June or so of last year. Grab a snack first, it will be fun. If you REALLY want to read some crazy, go back to this time last year. I thought I killed my eggs I was hatching at least a dozen times.

good luck with them all laying the same day, i have been waiting for that for 5 years, we have 43 hens and get 22 to 26 a day never have we got 43 in one day, of course i don't know what i would do with that many eggs.

I think I only had like one or two perfect days last summer. So far this year we've had several.

Must be the pie.

That or they feel guilty for not laying between october and february....
