Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

even while I was taking the photos, I had to move them to the shade. the rest of the eggs always looked normal, sun or not...I thought Gossy's egg seemed electrified and glowing. I couldn't get the color to show correctly because it was not correct even in my hand.

but that's the egg at 11 O'Clock. unplugged.

Enough of this snake drama! This time it happened to my BF. She called yesterday about 8:30 hyperventilating about a snake. It had gotten in with her juveniles. I sent my (hire-a) hubby to help. Just a rat snake, smaller than the one that I captured. DH told her not to worry it wouldn't eat anything as big as the chicken. But by the time he got there, it was attempting to eat a Marans (juvenile). DH was surprised. Let's just say that this snake probably didn't enjoy its last meal...

More snakes?! We had another one here too. A California king snake, which is great to have around because they will eat rattle snakes. Isn't the appearance of snakes supposed to portend something?

Or maybe they're just coming out of hibernation and are hungry.

We've had a lot of rain so maybe that's it? I just couldn't believe it ate a chick. My brooder is on the screen porch, so I made sure the lid was on tight!

ay carumba! between hibernation ending and rain... snakes will certainly be making themselves seen! we're so unseasonably dry, the Spring burn ban has been extended another 2 weeks. apparently, there were 3 fires in my area today. hope it wasn't from someone dropping a cigarette butt out of the window... one was definitely from someone burning trash - that one is near 1000 acre loss already. there was a fire about a mile from my house a couple of weeks ago, started by an ember that they say traveled a mile and a half up the mountain. burned 100 acres. it's hard to imagine that an ember could travel that far and still be lit.

I had dinner outside while the flock free ranged. I didn't get home until almost 6, and they were so cute, all jammed up at the doors... I had to let them out. still 2.5 hours of light... it was a lovely evening.

Wilma! I am not finished! okay, I'm finished. next, her foot is in my plate. just watch the knife baby...

Sendal's lavender is creeping up his back, he doesn't have a proper Silkie comb... but he's just awesome! a couple of the girls have developed super duper crests, while the others are so-so... better for their vision!

I hope Wilma is going to do the dishes for you. It's the least she can do.
she did her best... scratched and pecked all the food off quite thoroughly. they were all terrible dinner guests. snatching at bits, pecking the underside of the dish... that's the fun part of having clear dishes. I can slip a pretty paper plate under, and make it look festive and still have the sturdiness of a proper plate, and if used plain, torture the dogs and chickens because they can see the food from the underside. Chester is famous for licking the bottom of my plate and bowl...
