Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I went to the Salvation Army thrift store. I ended up buying smaller jean sizes for Jazlyn because they were BIGGER. Like 2 inches in the waist and one pair of jeans, the 2T were about three inches shorter than the 18 mos. I know brands differ, but good grief!

I did pick out a few 3T, but they were skinny jeans. All baby/toddler girl jeans are thin legged and/or decorated. Very annoying! My mother had purchased quite a few outfits in Massachusetts. I am set for a while. So glad! I even bought a hat and glove set. Last year they had Jaz in a onesie, covered with blankets. Period. Now that she is out of the carrier, they will have to put a coat on her at least. I doubt she will be wearing a hat though.
Anyway, still not at my house. Still thinking I will have a broody or five.

You know how important that first 3 years is for a child. Talking to her and showing her things and reading have a profound impact on brain development. You are setting her up for life! She may never know what you're doing for her, but you'll always know. And so will we, so hurrah to you!

Junco in the house, want's Pie

amazingly calm, it perched on my finger when it realized it couldn't get out the picture window, and then let me hold it.

I put it down rather than toss it out, to see what it would do. it went out, ate some millet and hung around the maple tree limbs for a while, returned to the front steps twice. I made a friend.

and yes, I scrubbed my hands with good hot water and soap after touching it... the flock was out so no risking touching one of them after that!

We have a couple of california towhees that are super tame. Always hanging around the patio seeing what's going on and they take baths in the dogs' water.

Never have fed them on purpose, but they hang out on the fringes and help the chickens finish off their birdseed treats. Friendly little guys!

Happy Labor Day all!!

DH and I did some grouse hunting over the weekend and some geocaching. Its nice how geocaching can take a person to spots that they never knew existed even though they have been there many many times.

The chicks are 6 weeks old and I am still confused about sex. I have one pullet.... I hope.

I mean that I hope it is a pullet and not another cockerel.

Egg laying is slowing down. The days are shorter and a few are in a mini molt. Heck.... there was even some snow on the mountain tops.

I've seen four hens and Steven. Bonnie is missing... Kinda. I got home around one, but was hiding from the nosy neighbors. I finally went out to check out the situation, and forgot the key. I'll unlock the pen soon, then go out early to see where the eggs are, and if Bonnie is brooding. Considering how shortly the other girls were out (I watch through the window) they could be on nests too. I saw food and water, so all is good.
Along with buying Jaz everything under the sun, I bought my first flannel shirt since about 2002. So comfy!

this was first thing this morning, and it only scuttled to the rock wall next to that step when I cracked the door to pour out some seeds. it did come back, but I was already busy with the dogs, then I forgot and went on to the cats and the chickens. my Junco was still hanging about, flirting with me. very Disneyish lately.
triple load tomorrow - gotta get some rest - but, I did do some moving tonight. I took all 6 chicks from the overcrowded bantam section and put them with Cosmo, my bantam RIR Silkie who is only a pain to his sister Cressa, who is currently brooding and separate. he's a perfect gentleman with everyone else. the move was smooth, but I had to pull 2 out of Cressa's nest, the other 4 off the slant ramp that I installed so Mama Gossy could get to the proper roost. why sleep on an angle? there's another 2 roosts in that pen, but no one uses them. so now, they are squashed with Cosmo, on a nice long roost, only taking up about a third of it. lol tomorrow, I move 8 other bantam chicks in, Royce and his 6 hens out, move my injured Julius in with brooding Gossy they won't bother each other at all, and he needs about another month to heal. I surmised his toes are broken. taping doesn't help so I trimmed his foot feathers and he's alone in the apple coop. he was with Junebug, but he wasn't healing. she was stepping on him. not pecking or being mean, but still... she was unhappy for 2 days, but is fine now. I'll be able to reintegrate him with Gossy's chicks, which are due in a week and a half, I think...
so Brutus, Dutch and Esther are coming out of the Dome, in lieu of Royce and his hens. they will have a nice harem of bantam hens in the end pen by themselves. the rest of the bantams get along and there is plenty of room in the first 2 sections that can remain open as one big or closed as 2 smaller if and when needed...
there will be throwdowns in the Dome tho'. I'll have to be up early early the first morning they all wake up together. Fannie in particular, likes to fight with Wilma and Blu. the Dome is big enough to house them all. there is escape area... and plenty of nesting space once I take Julius out of the apple coop. I set a nice kennel in with Gossy, where food and water can be a step away. he'll like it. and the hens can have that space back.
ramble ramble... that's what I get for staying up past my bedtime. Nite*****
