Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Sometimes I wonder how my life changed so much. Anyone familiar with R.O.G.A.T.E.? It is a program for smarty pants. I took my SATs in the seventh grade. I scored higher than my senior sister's friend. My sister scored higher than me, but she was a smarty pants too.
I know how the changes happened, but friends from N.J. are surprised by the whole new person I am.
The dog is asleep between my thighs. I don't want to bother him, so I'm using that as an excuse to not search for eggs.

Maybe you got burn out early, MC. Happened to my sis, and she is way up there in the brain department. High expectations surround you, but if you can't find your passion and your happiness, it's just a lot of pressure. Chickens make me happy!

I think you sleep so good because you work so hard and must be physically exhausted at the end of the day. Bet I would sleep better if I was more active. My back has only normal aches and pains now and plantar fasciitis has calmed down, so trying step up my activity level. Stupidly, I fell hard about 6 weeks ago, tripping over a 3ft fence doing chicken stuff. Thought my knee and hands would be bad from landing on them. Nope, little sore for a few days, but apparently I damaged the rotator cuff in my left shoulder.

Of course I'm left handed. It's not too bad, but takes a long time to heel and is another thing to deal with. Going to look for Ron's SleepyTime tea today.
I am so sorry about the shoulder injury! Those are very painful.

I hope the tea helps!

Well 3 weeks ago I decided that since I have a rooster I should see if I can hatch any of my own.

Well 6 babies so far, 1 more pup and 2 left to figure it all out.

They are all polish x because lucky the polish is their dad. I was hoping for some variety but it seems his favorite ladies are his other polish. I do believe there is one Silkie egg that hatched, 1 EE (or OE), and the egg that is pipping now is a marans.

I did have to do an emergency assist. The first egg to pop was clearly not in the air sac and I could see some crusty yellow around the edge of the pip. It was clear that if she survived the pip she could breath so I waited 24 hr and then checked her out. Sure enough she wouldn't have hatched as it does look like she maybe pipped close enough to the yolk to make it interesting (the shell was basically glued shut). But she's doing fine now, hatched beautifully once I took most of the egg/membrane away.

Congrats on the babies, CLindz. They have the cutest little dome heads! Is a Polish chicken considered large fowl? Was wondering if your rooster might be having trouble reaching the non-polish hens since they might be bigger. Or maybe they can see him coming in time for evasive maneuvers!

Yeah the polish I have are LF. Lucky is actually a good size. He is also very sweet and does not push his luck w the ladies. And I do have a 1:35 ratio so I'm not surprised that some aren't fertile.

Before today, I was missing only one egg since switching to the pen. I found three eggs today, but I think one is the missing egg.
The habit since laying began has been everyone laying daily with Stevie Nicks (green) taking off every 10-11 days. One brown egg missing every three weeks. All eggs by 1:00. Yesterday was the first time the eggs weren't begun until after one. Today was after 3:00! So, I may have just gotten two or three eggs today, and the days of "working out the kinks " are over. I am not complaining! I wasn't using all those eggs! I just wish I didn't have to go through so much looking for nests!
So, you guys get to use your creative juices. How many eggs (5 pullets) will I find in eight days, and how many broodies?
ETA, the mothers go broody multiple times year round.

I'm happy, and I wasn't in Management and Stuff Like That There.

MC... you are a Blessing to Jaz. The $25 a month will grow with interest.

I have trouble sleeping too. Its mostly stress from work. On the weekends, I sleep about 10-12 hours a night. The Sleepytime tea is good too. I like the Sleepyime Vanilla.

We had much needed rain yesterday, but we need so much more. I will be glad when Fall is here.

I have taken up Geocaching. It is tons of fun. Its like finding hidden treasure.

FIVE today!!
