Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

She won't let me get close enough to check. Her comb is very red, though. My rhode island red showed no signs indicating she was close to laying(except for the red comb). One day she just went to the nesting box, came back, and chased a spider. She layed 5 eggs in her first week of laying. My easter egger has been a bit agressive lately, is it possible I have a rooster?

Just because a chicken is aggressive doesn't make it male. Does she have sickle, hackle or saddle feathers?

Possible for you to have a rooster? Sure it's possible. But just because it's being aggressive doesn't mean it's a rooster. It may just be a hen that is making a bid for head honcho. Or she may just be grumpy. Hard to say. Have you posted pics of it somewhere? EEs can be difficult to sex at times.

I have true ameracaunas and I think it was 25 weeks before the first one laid an egg. If yours is 25 weeks I would agree with Cheeka that you're just barely on the outside edge of when she might start to lay. She may take another month or she may turn around and lay an egg tomorrow. I know, it's totally maddening.

Lastly, I have one chicken that started laying eggs and hasn't really ever stopped. She lays probably 28 or 29 eggs a month. Then I have others that will take any excuse to not lay an egg. Just depends on the bird.

Yeah I was thinking that too, W4W. I have limited experience with roosters but I thought at 25 wks it ought to be crowing. I also think it's a pullet but some good close up pics will tell the tale.

These were the best I could get. She hates the camera.

Glad I have a pullet. No roosters allowed where I live. I guess I just have to deal with her biting my fingers (I don't know why, but she seems to think that my fingers might turn into worms after the 879 time).
