Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Cheeka, Mylee looks so grown up now! Girls sure do change fast. Love those costumes. My guys quit when they became official teenagers. Their idea, too. I still wanted them to go out and get me some candy!

lol I went til I was 15. then it was my job to stay home and hand out candy to kids. I didn't mind, it was fun... and there was still candy...

MC, you'll be fine. I know it. but I'm here if you need me!

so! Wonderful Old Handyman called this morning to say his schedule changed, he was on his way up! the only thing left to do is fill in the gaps at the outside doors of the chain link kennel - last year I used feed bags, but Handyman left me a huge roll of roofing rubber. I will cut strips and simply seal them off and be done!
not installed before the photos, but done; over at the Dome, the store bought coop peak is sealed in rubber and the gap on top of the human door has a strip of rubber as well.

and I made a split pea soup with ham.

if it's nice out tomorrow, I'll get better pics, but the flock is loving the wind break and the incredible about of light in the back pen, dome was happy already, but if the wind comes from the North (rare), they won't feel it.

Cheeka, it looks great! You'd make an excellent squirrel,

getting all ready and snugged up for winter. I love the feeling of security that comes with being prepared. I am fascinated watching the jays cache their acorns and the squirrels collecting to put in their hoards. I have the utmost respect for squirrels. How do they know when they've got enough? And what keeps them from pigging out and eating everything in one gluttonous weekend? Especially the squirrels who survive through harsh snowy winters without hibernating. It is amazing that such a small critter can make it through til the spring. I think we can learn a lot from squirrels.

THE END

(Doesn't it sound like a 3rd grade essay?

I think I used squirrel logic when purchasing supplies. I guesstimated the amount of panels I would need, added a few for the Dome, and checked what they had. I had to buy every single panel in stock. 16 of the 12' length, 5 of the 8' length... wasn't exactly sure if I would make it over to the Dome with anything... but! I did! and I have one 2' x 2' square left! that's it! I can make a window for the side of the dome if I want.

it's so nice, and if it gets too warm inside next Summer, I can take a panel out for breezes. I will definitely take the front off the Dome. number them and store them so I can reuse...

Good job, cheeka!
I have been looking for a missing sippy cup all weekend! Somehow I didn't think of the second logical place she would put it! I just went to tuck her in, and found it in the nursery linen cabinet. Lol! Silly me!
A skunk sprayed while I was in the sunroom an hour ago. The smell brought tears to my eyes, and sunk into my clothes.

Too bad about the skunkage, MC. Something acidic (vinegar) should help get the skank out of your clothes.

We got about half an inch of rain last night and this morning.

Took these driving my son home from school this evening. Haven't seen a rainbow in a long time!

Poor thing has been gasy since she arrived yesterday. She even pooped in the tub.
This morning she was miserable. She tried and tried, but no luck. She didn't even want to drink her juice, let alone eat! She finally had a bit of success, but was still miserable. She cried when I changed her, then BAM! No more crying. No more pushing. Either the movement of changing her pushed the bubbles out (not that I hadn't tried that move) or keeping her pants off made her happy, which led to moving her body, thus the gas... I just don't know, but I'm glad!
Now why I'm telling you this: She didn't eat much of a morning snack, but when I put lunch on the table to cool, she brought her chair to me, and demanded I put her in it!
Hungry at last!
Nap will be over soon. Then we can collect eggs and play outside. Her favorite part of being here is tending to the chickens.

I wish I had had a camera/cellphone outside with me earlier. Jaz has never seen four eggs in the nest. Since she has been collecting by herself, we always get eggs a few times a day. She didn't want to hand the two in her hands over, so was leaving the other two behind. Silly girl. Maybe she was going to lay the first two in the grass. Who knows?
After switching to sneakers, I took her to the swing. She was dragging a large stuffed dog behind her. She laughed when I put it in the swing without her, then hugged it so tight when I put her in. She was getting really comfortable with it. When I took her out, I sat in the grass, and watched her run through the leaves. She had a blast! Nothing like dry leaves and warm-coat free- weather to make the experience better for a toddler. I know being alone means I am missing out on some things, but nothing I can't do again. THIS! This time spent watching Jazlyn as she learns about the world around her. This is so much more important than a ride on the motorcycle. I can't remember much about times I've ridden. I will not forget the smile on Jazlyn's face or the sound of her laughter.

Here is a picture from tonight. She left her hair alone for a whole ten seconds so I could take a picture.
