Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

katatonic, sounds like your brother has the knack. Oliver will likely respond well, and make an excellent and beautiful addition to the flock. I love mine to pieces. he's the sweetest, ever.

chickenraiser... could be any time. 28-30 weeks seems to be the average, but I've had them wait longer. 8 months was the longest of all. the shortness of days shouldn't make much difference to Spring pullets. they lay when they lay. EE's are worth the wait. trust me.

Jaz got sick overnight Tuesday. I got a call a while later asking how I have been getting her sick?

I have had her all but Sundays since at least Thursday before Halloween. This is the first cold since then. If it were me she would have been sick before now. Unlike the parents and neighbors whom have all had Bronchitis a few times lately. I don't go anywhere. If I get sick, it is from Jazlyn.
Meanwhile, she couldn't stay asleep tonight, and kept laying there. looking pathetic, not looking at me, just crying softly from time to time. I got her up (no idiot gives more milk after three hours without changing a diaper first!) and she grabbed her ear. Poor baby! Glad I got her up! I cleaned her all up, let her play while I set up the Vicks humidifier, gave her some pain killers, and she was asleep in minutes (and half a bottle). No more crying or whimpering!

Four eggs today. I do wonder why one hasn't been laying.

I got six pints of chicken broth canned today. I have done three batches of canning in under a week. I am impressed!

A woman needs to rehome them (free!) to someone that is willing to keep them as pets (though she is understanding of life). I live further away than she is hoping, but I PMed her anyway. I have been wanting ducks, but have resisted due to the wet mess they make. And their poop is worse. But, Pekins are sooooooo adorable!

And they are great egg layers throughout the year. Pluuuussss... They are fast growing, and good for meat. I can hatch out ducklings for anyone that wants duck meat. Not to mention, some people may want the eggs.

I have been reading some old posts on here, so I decided to to do this, which was the normal back then.

One, today I got one!
I wish we had three, I know it could be done.
My easter eggers won't lay,
Can my rhode island red show them the way?
I will be glad when I get three eggs,
But for now I just have to wait.

for Pekins! That's great, MC. Classic ducks. Jaz will love them. Ducks have it all over chickens for entertainment value because they can swim!

I've been toying with the idea of getting a few runner ducks. Going to do some research first.
