Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Happy Thanksgiving*

it's a disaster over here. 2+ year old girls EE Beryl and Cochin Zira - Beryl was standing funny, found to be impacted with poop, so she's cleaned, trimmed and eating and drinking, remaining with the flock. Zira suddenly has wry neck! she's in the bathroom with Little Sister and her injured leg, which is doing about 30% better. Zira is in a laundry basket because all she wants to do is back into a corner anyway. I've pulverized children's vitamin into applesauce, she ate a lot of it... fingers crossed.

then I find that Mama Louise has killed one black chick and one chipmunk chick and is actively pursuing the remaining 4. tattered tiny wing feathers... so they too are in the bathroom, on a heating pad.

what a mess. Louise will NEVER learn. but now I have and I will never let her keep an egg or get near a chick again. in fact, if I can rehome her. she's gone.

Sounds like you've got it under control, cheeka. Boooooo, Louise, boooooo! (she loses honorary mama title) Glad you saved the ones you did. Nice that they have each other, and you! I had a Serama that was hanging out in the coop on the roosts during the day. After 3 days, I grabbed her and saw that poo had stuck to her feathers and had piled up to the point where she couldn't go anymore.

Trimmed her up and she felt much better. I keep watch on the Cochin for that, but never expected it for a typically feathered bird!

Wishing everyone peace and blessings and a happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the enjoyable moments!

she is precious! I love the elephant butt... I'd have picked that too. for her... not for me

bought 3 30 lb feeders today and converted the biggest of the rubber feed bowls into dirt baths.

there's 2 in the Dome, but just like nests... they all want this one. because this one is somehow way better than the bigger one in the other corner...

Zira is improving! and she ate a good amount today, she didn't drink as much water as I would have liked to see, but she had a lot of applesauce, so that is moisture...

2 months old and she's taken on the chicks. they help her balance... they like being under her wings and she tries so hard to derp, but she can't cuz she's still peepin'. amazing tho', they respond to her. good company and no more crazy behavior in the pens! (the chicks still sleep in a box with a heating pad, spend the day with Little Big Sister)
