Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

hmm, mine would eat the mice if they made it inside their runs or such... I have a video of one hen tapping on the garage, then a vole came out - snatch! she smashed that rodent until I'm sure it was liquefied on the inside. I do not like them in my shed, even if they can't get to the feed which is stored in metal cans with tight fitting lids. they can get into the bedding I have stored. I've found a few over the years, drowned in the water buckets, or frozen in the water buckets... I have traps set in the shed, catch at least one a week, often more in the winter, so far I've only caught 2 this year, guess they've passed on the info, don't go in the shed! Uncle Mousy never came back - oh the horror!
one of the 30 lb feeders broke a hinge, snapped right off the welded spot. so that will be returned. I have the receipt. I also have meds to pick up, Belle gets spayed tomorrow... so I might just take care of the feeder and Rx's after I drop her off. I have to move Elbe out of the bathroom or put her in something that won't spread shavings all over the room when she flaps. she trashed the bathroom. and I had just cleaned it. I don't have the strength for all this nonsense. the dogs are great, but driving me bonkers. one pug in the lap is fine, 2 is crowded and then they start playing, which is annoying, then Chester joins in and it's noisy and bumpy and... then I get up, dump them all off and make them go outside for a few minutes. it's too cold to stay out longer. 2 months until Spring!

not the best photos of the one pullet that I want photos of... but how did I get a half frizzled pullet? it shows best when she's walking away

she's so adorable, but seriously... how? must be that a couple got together and each gave a frizzle gene, but I have no idea... all of my birds are smooth

I got 2 silkied Serama chicks out of all smooth birds, but I know silkie is a recessive trait. Not sure about frizzle gene, and why/how only partial frizzle. It will be interesting to see if she regrows these feathers after her first molt, or if they come in smooth. Love the bearded lady at the back of the pic.

Well, 24, I wish you good riddance of those pests. I've got traps set in several places, but now that it's so cold here, they seem to have gone somewhere else. Now, TA-DA, the mystery of the missing eggs is solved. I went out today expecting it have to report a fifth day with no eggs, but as I bent over, I got it. I had stowed a half bag of wood shavings in an unused nest box, and the girls thought that was just ducky. They had snuggled in there to leave 13 eggs. Sure surprised me!

I love a good mystery!! Glad you found them. I did a search of the entire yard and under the shed and any possible hiding places. Nope. Just seem to be laying every other day or so.

I have lots of half silkified babies - but I got lucky this September hatch and got 2 pullets that look entirely Silkie, one white, one black. both adorable. and good point, we'll have to see what comes of the pretty frizzled feathers next year... the luscious bearded lady in the back is one of my absolute faves.
