Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Yeay, woo hoo.. I'm tired. I am happy for you though.

Another is out, but IDK where it came from. Ha ha! 15 out, 1 dead, two pips, and 3 I don't see anything yet.

I was thinking about that the last time (about an hour) I was watching them. Blue looks gray.
So you think they're actually blues? That would be cool. I'm amazed to not have any reds or whites.

They could be lavender.

Blue, whether referring to fur (cats, rabbits) or feathers is a specific type of gray. For fur, it is a solid color the same from tip to root. It differs from "chinchilla" or roan or other types of gray where there is a different color down, different color hairs mixed in, or bands of different colors on the hair, which might not be visible on the outside. Not sure what it means for feathers. There is self blue, where the down on the feather is the same color as the ends. "Gray" seems to be a more generic term. And that's about all I know. We have a blue minirex bunny and have had a Russian Blue cat. Both of them had/have the same dark gray coloring that has a bluish cast to it. No hint of brown.

Chicory is the blue Mini Rex meeting baby Flemish Giant, Sherman (the tank)!

I guess I haven't posted in a while. I have been so busy reading it! My poor rhode island red hates the cold temperatures. I am considering moving her into the basement.

I pretty much spent all day yesterday in bed. Today, I need to water and feed the girls, clean litter boxes, clean house, grocery shop and tonight, we have a wildlife management banquet to go to. It sounds fancy, but its mostly redneck people eating food :drool. and trying to win raffles. You kn o w... rifles, guns, hunting trips... fun stuff. :clap
Congrats in the hatches MC and W4W. :jumpy

Well, it really is a hatch now!

There are probably more, but I didn't want to disturb anyone AND I didn't have a photographer with me. There was no peeping, though. They were all very quiet. Maybe they were listening to the rooster crowing.

Here are a few pics from yesterday. Way too many broody hens! There are more not in view!

Here's a pip I saw when they got up for some water. I actually heard it first. Little tapping-cracking sound.

Proud papa Mo, standing on tippy toes, trying to make himself look really big...

.....so he can chase the big girls away from his coop!

Since they are so crowded and very peckish, I am worried they will kill chicks that they don't consider theirs. It happened to one chick 2 yrs ago, and back then I only had 5 broodies to deal with, not 10. So we are planning to take the chicks away and raise them in a brooder. Chicks will be more friendly that way too. I feel sorry for the hens, but they will go broody again. And again. And again and again!

More pics later!
