Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Wow! Congrats MC! can't wait for more pics!!!

have you peeked yet W4W?

Doc went well, all things considered, I am doing very well, but I will still be out of work for another month! I will be certifiable by then. I brought him a dozen eggs - when I went to have the wrap cut off, he suggested I kill all my birds and eat them so I wouldn't have to care for them. I should have brought him a bag of chicken poop... but I was nice... he'd never seen the Easter Eggs before, maybe next month, when I go back, my Marans will have resumed and I will be able to add a speckled dark red/brown egg to the mix.

There are 14 out. One that pipped is dead in shell. It had been so long since I have seen anything, that I picked one of the eggs up that had not yet pipped. It began yelling at me. It now has a pip. It makes noise occasionally. They still have time.
Ron, I am confused by your comment. I appreciate it! But I didn't have high humidity.

Oh, was it temperature? I have a memory of a post about being worried that they had all died for some reason.

They are very cute chicks!

Cheeka, my mother pretty much told me the same thing! I was making the point that if I broke my leg I wouldn't have anyone to help me. She told me I should get rid of the entire flock right now.
I calmly told her she didn't know what she had just said to me. She got defensive, and started sputtering that she meant nothing by it. I interrupted her to tell her again I wasn't upset to please just drop it. It took another try for her to stop insisting I get rid of all the birds.

Thats my situation. I got one white leg horn who laid at 17 weeks. and another leghorn at 24 weeks who's comb is still yellow. She was older and bigger than the one laying. Also got three Golden Stars , two have been laying from 19 weeks but the third is on Welfare!

They look great, MC! Love the blue ones. Such a pretty color! Thumbs up on the new avatar. You are both smiling!

Cheeka, I have seen 2 eggs pipped. There are probably more. The way the hens jostle for uncovered eggs, I will be amazed if any survive! We are going to pull the chicks and raised them in a brooder. Way too many wanna-be-mommies and I think the chicks would be in danger of getting trampled. Maybe one or two hens can raise them in the garage. The little cochin is doing a good job. I think she would be good choice since she can cover a lot more chicks! We'll see!

You're doctor sounds like a city slicker! He probably hasn't ever even seen a chicken in person. Lots of people with bird phobias too. Strange.

Welcome Little Fuzzy! I think the bigger birds use more energy for growing, so tend to lay later. Not surprising about you larger Leghorn if you think about it that way. Sounds like you are going to have lots of eggs rolling in very soon!

I was thinking about that the last time (about an hour) I was watching them. Blue looks gray.
So you think they're actually blues? That would be cool. I'm amazed to not have any reds or whites.
