Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Your story from today is way scarier than the decapitated horses.  :hugs

That made me laugh!

KD, in a nutshell, I believe marriage is forever, and to love in sickness. Unfortunately, my husband has been testing that sickness part. He came off the road on the eleventh of February last year. I'm raising our niece. She was 7 months that day. He went after her, beat me up, and killed the baby I was carrying by the fifteenth. He took off on the 16th, and has been messing with me since. We aren't even separated, because that discussion wasn't even had. So I live in uncertainty and fear.
The neighbors are his cousins, but in odd twist of fate, the baby's parents are my brother-in-law and a cousin. It gets stranger than that, but anyway...
I can't get to the post office more than about once every month or two. Ordering is out. I was going to order from Meyer, and pick them up when I happened to be in the area (I have family an hour from there) but they don't allow pick ups for their ducks.

Oh wow, that sounds like quite a crazy story and the guy sounds like a real terror, so sorry :(

As for the ordering thing, wow that stinks! :/ i guess i forget sometimes people don't live in as central a place or in town as we do. But wow,i didn't know they didn't allow pick ups for the ducks. That's so weird, wonder why that is?

Well, glad you got a little chuckle. Part of me is glad to know your story, but the reality is worse than I had imagined. I will spare you my thoughts on him (because most of it would get censored), but if there is ever anything I can do to help, just ask. You'll be taking care of Duckling's little sibling, I guess? Will that be Gosling, maybe?

Speaking of ducklings, I have been wanting to get a few ducks for some time now. Had them when I was a kid, and loved them. I have been researching breeds (as opposed to cleaning the house) and am very interested in Welsh Harlequins. They are beautiful and supposed to be very good layers. The good news is, a major duck breeder/hatchery, Metzer Farms, is within driving distance and they allow pickup at their office! Now I just have to figure if and when and where I should keep them. Planning a family vacation this summer, and don't want to leave my babies! Maybe next year.

Ha ha! When my sister-in-law asked what I thought about them have another child, I told her I'd be happy to welcome another little one into my home. She laughed and said she was glad I understood!
I'm glad you I've so close to Metzer. That's pretty cool! I think my favorite dock is the blue Swedish. I like my Pekins though, because I know that I xan butcher any extras. I have never had duck meat, but I can pressure can it for others or until I'm ready to try it. If I understand correctly, all ducks are actually edible. I wouldn't know.
I am thinking of getting turkeys again, so the next child will probably be "the little turkey"!

Ducks can be pretty greasy/fatty. The Welsh Harlequins are smaller and supposed to be less fatty. Not that I will eat my babies!! Muscovy is supposed to be the best for eating.

Metzers is about 4 hrs away, so I would make a little trip out of it and stay overnight. Monterrey is close, so a trip to the aquarium there would be an added bonus.

Their website has lots of good info too.  The father has retired and passed the business to his son. I've read a few articles by the dad.  He knows his ducks.  Do you have any?

Yeah, I'm always amazed by the amounts of great info on that website! Most other places just seem to be in it to sell chicks, even if they have a few good pieces of info or are nice, Metzer seems to really care and really go in depth in all the articles, instead of just little blurbs. Did not know it was a family business though, that's amazing! I do not have any ducks right now but I've wanted them for a little while haha one day I will have them!! I've heard a lot of great things about Metzer though. I actually just got my first chickens in October from Meyer, 9 little babies but one died very early on so now 8. I love them and plan on making a new, much bigger, coop and run soon but it was like as soon as they grew up a bit and/or I thought of the new coop I started wanting ducks and thinking of what new animal can go in their old run

You are catching the highly contagious Chicken Math! I see it was your barred rock that died. Sorry about that. I had one and she was super friendly and family favorite.
