Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

We had this discussion in the PA thread. Mites can hear. So!
You wear all black and soft soled sneakers. Put on a black ski mask and night vision goggles. You tip toe veeeeerry carefully into the coop...
Thank you. I think she's pretty cute myself. I especially like the picture of her in my computer chair with her hair up. Such a big girl!

It was pretty funny!

good laugh catching up this morning - MC, I believe you're the only person I've ever poked on Facebook. I have a page full of people who've poked me, but I couldn't resist after Scrambles posted it on your wall and it showed up in my News Feed...

W4W, your hotel story is so funny... I can just imagine trying to extract the foot... lol,

I'm going to try to get out and about for photos today, never know... I might get something good.

I can't stop laughing!

I was out doing chicken chores and heard squawking from around the corner from one of the Trader Joes hens. I went to investigate and found the hen in an old shed that the door blew off of. In the shed I found the hen--she was fine--but they had decided to use the old roll our nest box that is in there to lay eggs---a lot of eggs! I bet there are a hundred of them in there. There were 40!

I will count when I so see how many are rotten....Silly Chickens!

Oh wow, Ron! And you probably thought they were slacking!

This is an odd year. I have a 4 yr old hatchery buff Orp that quit laying mid way through her second season. Peach is very sweet, and my son's favorite, so she has a home here, but I was thinking she wouldn't survive long, maybe internal laying or something like that. Once in a great while, an unusual light egg would show up, but I always attributed it to one of the light brown layers just having a beige day. Now this year, it seems Peach is laying again! About 2 times a week, I am finding a cream colored egg and last week, it was proven to be her by process of elimination (all 3 of the Orps laid in one day!). Over the last year, we have lost a few hens and gained a few new ones, and I am thinking the new flock dynamic might have something to do with it. Very happy! We'll see if she keeps going!

My hubs just came in and said Peachy wants to come inside. She would be a house chicken if she had it her way!

They will still lay some at 4. Some will even go up to 7 and still lay an egg or two.

I did think they were slacking some. The Two Australorps must have started up and a several of the TJ's hens must have started laying in the shed.
