I went to the North 40 today to look at chicks. The only type of meaties were the cornish x. What do you guys think of those? I might start with 2 when Rump goes broody.
I don't. I like something smaller and safer, but I do aprec... Sorry. That isn't what you meant.
What about your butt going broody? Are you trying to say you are going to get two CRX when you want more kids?
Ya, two cx for Rump. I am sneaking in an EE though. Rump is showing no signs of broodiness. Lil Bit, her chick from last year isnt either. Lil Bit went broody last summer, but broke when i moved her to a crate.
surprisingly enough, I don't have any broody's yet either. but that might change over the next week when temps move back up to the 50's during the day. I wonder what to really expect for the month of March weather-wise...
today is brutally cold and windy, but the sun is shining... I should go try to find something to photograph. or go to the library and find a good book.
For the past few days, it has been glorious. The sun is shing, the birds are singing and it has been in the 50s. Right now it is 58. The girls are out frolicking. Only 2 eggs so far, bit Betty did sing the egg song.e e
I am happy because at last I have ZERO broody hens!
The Seramas are almost back to normal, only 3 are still sleeping in the nest box at night, but I will cure that this weekend. I hope. Weather has been very springy here. Sunny and low 70s-upper 60s. Lots of green grass for them to dig through, and lots of sun bathing going on. Got 6 eggs yesterday!!
Three today so far. Only 9 layers left with the loss of Grumpus, so 6 is pretty good! All of them are laying capable and the oldsters are slowing down, but I still have a chance for the elusive perfect day! That would be something. 9. Would feel like winning the lottery.
I'm waiting for the duck to start back up. I thought she was almost one, but I have two written in my notes.
Doing laundry (out of sleepers, and now out of sweats for her) and making supper. She likes to play with the oven mitt. The beeper went off to say that the oven was done preheating, and she stopped reading her book to get the oven mitt out of the laundry basket she had been playing in.
Here are a few pictures of her helping me with the laundry. She pulled out an Ace bandage, and couldn't figure out how to pick it all up at once! :-D
