Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

got to the library, got the 9 page questionnaire and printed a copy of my insurance card because they don't mail the plastic ones anymore (???)
Handyman is here, finishing up the odds and ends but I just let the flock out. I have a few photos (still in the camera) and I need to get back outside, but I'm whooped... too whooped really for free range, but they need it and while he's here, he's keeping an eye out so I can come and go. I have to use a cane in the yard, which sucks, but is better than falling down!

Cressa is so dang broody, I may pick out 3 large fowl blue eggs to give her. I really don't want to hatch anymore this year, but... I can't break her. when I toss her out, she walks around all puffed up and grouchy. I have one other who has 3 eggs due to hatch sometime this week, I've lost track. some will be boys, and will be sold to the folks on my route who eat them.
 
I still have 2 very broody Seramas and my big cuckoo orp. They don't show interest in anything except those invisible eggs.

4 Serama cockerels started crowing before 6am this morning in the garage! Who needs an alarm clock?! Since my rooster died, I'd been considering keep 2 of the 4 to replace him. Not any more! They are loud! I will keep the smallest little silkied boy, Bueno, since he has the softest crow.

This morning, I took Bueno over by the free ranging hens to see how they'd react. One of the older hens was very interested in him. She kind of sidled over to him and dropped a wing!! Little hussy. And here I was thinking she was going to pulverize him! He did his best tippy toe crowing, scratched all around and offered up treats, which created much interest, but no takers. He's still significantly smaller (about 10 wks now) and still peeps so not really threatening, and it seems they will accept him just fine. We sat out under the oak tree for about half an hour before crazy broody Stumpy came screaming out of the coop, ran over to where the hens and Bueno were hanging out, and promptly went after him!! He dodged away from her, strategic retreat, but held his ground, the good boy. I was tempted to leave him out there with the girls, but when I walked around to the other side of the tree to check the water, he came running after me! So after a brief consultation, we decided he should go back into the brooder pen. He was well received since he brought the other chicks some kale leaves. Good thing I'm not attached to this little guy.

Now I have to sell the other 3 boys, and maybe one of the pullets. It's so hard. I'm sure I will find my backbone at 6am tomorrow morning!
 
no 3 week tinge of pink. not saying that there's no cockerels in this bunch, but so far so good! and they love the bath Mama made

this wee one is a proper flock member. accepted and protected by all. no one chases it and Mama never has to defend it.

the fence totally encircles and encloses the big lilac, which is great for cover and for bathing

Back side of the new fence, the little tarped up pen on the left is outside the fence. can be dismantled and moved somewhere else. or put away...

front side of the fence. Handyman forgot that there is a coop on the inner corner of the Dome... so I have to collect eggs from there from the front yard, and go through the house into their enclosure or walk around and use the gate to collect eggs from the store bought coop. oh well, it can be fixed in June when my friend makes arrangements to fence in another section for her dogs.

so for now, no more wrap around driveway, no shortcuts through the yard... but it's really relaxing. I don't have to worry about hawks. I have a lot of crows who chase them away. I hardly see hawks here... it is the opportunistic fox or coyote that now can't just snatch and dash if I have to step inside for a minute or two, or even turn my back to see where a certain group is... they'll still be supervised. and omg, getting them to go home was so easy... the bantams can't play ring around the back pen and the Dome Dweller's can't dash down the driveway and play ring around my Jeep.
 
And that is why I usually have a baby gate up in front of the screen door on the front porch!
Dakli was trying to set against the door, and it opened. If it weren't such a heavy door she would've gone down the steps backward. Fortunately, it kept her from falling all the way out. It was just her butt.

Duckling is so beautiful, makes me yearn for Wrangler.

speaking of...Wrangler will be on the road to here in 5 days! it will take the better part of 2.5 days to arrive, wish I could blink them here...

it's beautiful out, the flock is ranging, currently being guarded by Hershey Cat, I am cleaning out the shed, just hauled 3 feed bags stuffed full of other feed bags around to the front to be sealed for trash pickup. that shed is a mess... I need a break from the sun, the shed is a good place to start... I don't have tons of energy left after working, but I got the dishes done... and the shed isn't too big or overwhelming, just disorganized. hopefully, I'll have some pics to share later.
