Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Well you had a busy afternoon rounding up Archie. Glad you got him back. My other BR (not Roger) has been sleeping in the nest box last three nights and now spending most all of her time in the nest box. When she gets out to eat and drink she walks around all puffed up and making this funny sound and all the other chickens pick on her till she gets back in the nest box. Last two days I just got six eggs which I think is another sign. I don't think she has laid a egg for a couple days. This afternoon I noticed one of my BO sitting in the nest box which is not normal. I made another nest box and put it up this afternoon. Going to go lock them up and check on them.. BRB

See. Jinx. It is a little late for broodiness, what will you do? Cheeka what a workout! You know, that predators usually hole up in bad weather, rain and such...you can tell when a big storm is coming when everything is moving...then might as well sit by the fire during the storm. Poor guy wants to move into the garage....cats or no. Mine where all on the poarch today.

She is still in the nest box. Been there the last three or four nights. From what I read I believe she is broody. Not normal I know that. With no roo I have no fertile eggs. I gave her a golf ball and she is really taking good care of it keeping it warm. Alright ACW what now?

Calculus is the study of change, with the basic focus being on
  • Rate of change
  • Accumulation

Calculus is what we need
When we're hooked on chickens
and how they breed...

Who will turn broody?
How long does it take
to get hooked on hatching
and seal your fate?

The Rate of Change is up to us
if it's no big deal, no need to fuss...
if it's a lure, changes rapidly take place
before you know it, it's a whole new case!

Accumulation is the natural rule,
their so darned cute, it's an internal duel.

How many is "too" many?
we have to ask ourselves...
they need care and attention,
they're not trinkets on our shelves.

Fortunately, they are endearing
and win over most of us
so those of us who love them so
will expand with Calculus!

I like that. If ACW didn't eat that rooster I might go get him and name him Calculus.

I do feel horrible letting that poor chicken sit on a golf ball. But I really didn't want any more till spring. Might try to slip Roger in the nest box at night and remove the golf ball. Do you think that will work?

Aha, not too late. But it is for broody. Can't you just imagine how cute that little golf all will be it cute little feet and a head? Two options, get fertile eggs and let her hatch, or try to break the spell. Lotta different ways, if i ever wanted to try it I'd prob switch out the golfball with ice cubes. You could also deny her access to the nest...sounds mean. Do you want me to send you a few fertile eggs? They'd be game cross right now.
