Well, you just can't have too many shoes/boots. You can get fat, you can get skinny, but those boots will always be wearable. Thing is, will you wear them more than three times a week? The other thing is, its better for your bones to alternate shoes, and not wear the same ones all the time. I could use a pair for town, but ones I can still walk a few miles without getting frostbite should I wind up hanging off a cliff somewhere. Yet still look sharp! Being able to use the clutch is a consideration as well.

Interesting to know about the ads. I also wonder if they tag our history, sometimes I have been surfing for an item on line, then i come here and see the ad for what I was looking at....coincidence? Or even the topic in the thread corresponds to the ad..different threads have similar ads. Just something I noticed.

Four eggs today, one of each color! 2 from first thing this morning, 2 this afternoon... it snowed, only a little up in Gilboa, a lot heavier in Jefferson, and hardly any in Middleburgh, but there was a little... the gang didn't like it one bit. they went out and came straight back in. the lady at the convenience store gave me a leftover breakfast sandwich that they couldn't sell, to give to the birds. it was so funny to watch them tear it apart and chase each other around for the slices of bacon, ham and sausage, the bread and the scrambled egg were eaten last.

Si is in BIG Trouble. BIG. HUGE. he went after the Pug, pinched her on her face - her ear or her cheek... it was so fast, she yelped, but stopped when I commanded and did not go after him. good girl! I caught Si up and he actually fought me while hanging upside down! I took him out and put him in the portable run, alone. he's not getting another chance to attack anyone. I will dispatch him tomorrow after work. I should have a short day, with the 2 newbies taking some of the load off my hands. hate to lose him, as he's so handsome... but he could take Ruby's eye out in a flash...
I almost ripped his head off with my bare hands. Since I have a place to keep him for now, it can wait til I have daylight and tools... I'm going to eat him. I think I will skin him, keep his cape intact.

Snow is falling here about an inch an hour...its going to stick too. The weather is making the roos nuts. Broke up another fight today, one of my favorites, thought he hurt his eye, but its ok. Yeah, they'll take a swing at anything when they're in that state...I keep my hands back if i can, already got two nice bruises in the same place. I'll let him out tomorrow, tonight he can sleep in the crate. I'm going to have to thin them out a bit...maybe keep four yearlings for now...there are about eight following them after that. Got a dozen eggs today! They are starting to lay better, yea!

ACW, I was wondering, after all the chicks you had hatch out this summer, how many chickens do you have now? Do you eat the extras? I think we had games when I was young, and we never had a mean rooster. I never even knew they could be mean.

Just being nosy.

Have somewhere between fifty and sixty. I start counting and just when i think I have it, another group will come out from somewhere else. Had way to many losses from predators this summer, worse than ever before. But...I am chalking it up to survival of the fittest, and who is left stays to breed, and that's alot fewer mouths to feed over the winter. Yes, I will eat the extras. I don't consider them mean at all, I never worry about one striking me, ever. They do fight alot when they get to maturity, and when they are like that, they will bite you, or anything in reach...dog noses for instance. I think they are the best for free range, actually many people think they do better and thrive free range and not so great confined. They can be tamed into pets if you want, rub their ears and they practically fall over in a coma once they are used to you. You can ask me whatever you like, I don't think its nosy. Some people seem clandistine about them (that old stygma) but i don't pit them or do anything illegal, and just have to treat them a little different sometimes.
