Should I clean the coop out (Deep Litter Method)

Silly question, maybe---but what about the feathers?? Do we need to try to get rid of some of them? Will they eventually decompose?
I sometimes see my girls snacking on little downy ones. Protein, I guess.
I do PDZ poop trays and a deep bed of pine shavings with a bit of PDZ on the coop floor. The run is dirt with pine shavings and also a scoopful or two of PDZ. I turn over the shavings in the run every week, scraping up any dirt that has hard-panned. The chickens love it when I do that and it has everyone scrambling for any bugs I might turn up.
I don't have many leaves as most fall into deep brush or wetlands here and aren't easily accessible. Not sure about the mowed grass clippings as I have read too many horror stories about impacted crops.
Thinking about winter and really have to get that roof on the run. Health issues here but we got all the lumber stained and the added crosspieces to the roof structure with joist hangers so we are getting there!
If all else fails I will fling a tarp over half the run and keep a ladder nearby to clear any snow.
