Should I Cull my Hen?

That says pyrethrin... which permethrin is supposed to be a synthetic form of. But I bet there are differences.

Maybe you need to be sure to get it all the way to the skin... with feathers spread if you're currently just spraying on the surface. Other than that the only thing I do differently than you describe is small spritz to the back nape of the neck (skin). I never soak them. This is the one I use...

It's possible you may have resistance in your area from folks over using and not doing follow up treatments to get the next generations and completely disrupt the life cycle. If that is the case then using the sevin might be good choice... or pour on ivermectin. I far prefer spritz over powder as powder shakes into the air instead of staying WITH the bird.

Don't give up... I know it's challenging! :fl
Oh, what? :idunno I have no idea what to think anymore. Yeah, I try. My ladies' butts are all featherless right now, so that area is covered, but their wings are another matter. The older ones don't really care, but the younger ones throw a huge chicken tantrum every time I try to get under their wings. :barnie I'm lucky if I get even one wing. Thanks for the picture of what you use! I'll see if I can find it anywhere at my local IFA.
That could be a possibility. A lot of people in my neighborhood/area have chickens, so maybe the mites here have developed a resistance to it.
Yes, I prefer liquid as well. It's easier to apply, since I'm a one-woman operation when it comes to the hens.
Thank you, I won't! :D

Oh, come on! She's already at the ripe old age of 6...... why not just let her live out her golden years and die a natural death? People are soo quick to cull. And they could live a lot longer than 6 years of age!

Here to. I do any stuff like this after roost using a headlamp and keep it dark holding them kinda football style.

Feathers might not grow back until they molt... so is it possible you have eliminated them and just don't realize it yet?

I have never culled any of my hens before. It is a last resort. I just want to make sure that she is not suffering, because I've already had a hen die traumatically this year and I don't want to repeat that experience if I can't help it.
She's having trouble walking, jumping, things that a normal hen should be able to do. It breaks my heart. But she seems to be getting ready to pass, so hopefully it will not come to me having to put her down.

Possibly. I'm still finding the buggers on the eggs and in the nesting-boxes though. I just haven't seen them on the hens since I sprayed them.

She doesnt look bad at all for her age.. She doesnt look like shes suffering either.. Her eyes are bright.. Up to you though.. We get old and get slower.. I would hate to be killed for it.. Just my opinion.
