Yesterday this chick hatched. I'm "fairly" new to chickens, only had them about two years and maybe done 8 hatches.
This last hatch was my worst one yet. I had 12 silkie eggs every one of them developed in the egg. Friday, I had two hatch naturally and two pipped. Saturday I woke up and checked on them, the pipped eggs both looked like they died over night. I quickly intervened and the one was infact dead, and this little one was literally on the brink. I didn't think he was even going to me it 5 minutes, but it's now Sunday morning and it's still alive. It's one leg is sticking directly out to the side and the other one isn't much better. The other 6 eggs, fully developed chicks, none made it to pipping, there is zero movement in the eggs. The power definitely didn't go out, my Temps and humidity have been right on the entire 21 days. I use a nuture right 360 and I've never had this problem.
My thoughts are going to the lady I bought them off of, she said they were a project batch of silkies, they were in blue and green eggs. Could it be just a bad genetic batch of eggs?
Do I cull this poor chick or can I save it? It seems to have some fight, but I don't want it to be in pain.
