I can't help thinking that asking people here if you should expand your flock is like asking a drug addict if you should take another hit

I think if you have enough space and you pick breeds known for being good flock members (and rehome any that don't live up to their breed's reputation) that you will do fine expanding your flock.

I like my dark brahmas, easter eggers and polish quite a bit and all seem to be good flock members. The polish can get picked on though. My Silver Laced Wyandottes are a bit thuggish.

Maybe get a nice rooster, then maybe one of your hens will go broody and raise some new chicks for you.

Update: we got five one month old chicks. They are a mix between Americana, Rhode Island reds, and a little bit of unknown. Thanks for your advice!
