Should I feed ground-up egg shells to my flock?

I have 12 hens and since we got them in April we had been saving all the eggs shells from our store bought eggs. They are nice and dry and I have ground them up very small. I was planing on simply adding the egg shells to the layer feed as a supplement. Is this a good idea or not?

I do, great source of calicum and they enjoy them it seems.
I microwave them to help them crush more easily.

egg shells will help them produce harder shells on their eggs.they should be dried before giving them to your birds

Of course they are great to feed as a supplement and the birds will like it too.
