Should I get a new Chicken?

Discussion in 'Managing Your Flock' started by MyLoveableChick, Aug 17, 2014.

  1. So one of my chickens died last April. I want to get a new one but I keep on thinking, I have to quarantine it, make sure it doesn't have diseases, let the chickens get used to the other chicken, and they have to resolve the pecking order. It really sounds like a lot of work, and I have to go to school which is in September. What should I do? I have 1 aggressive bird, (Brownie) and a very docile bird, (Aurora). [IMG]

Only you can decide, but, if you do choose to get one, why not 2? Two would be easier to integrate... that is if you have enough room for 4 girls. Otherwise, i'd put one of your other 2 girls in with the new gal. Perhaps quarantine for a week or 2, then put Aurora with the new girl for a week, then put the 2 girls with Brownie. You might start by asking yourself why you want to get a new bird?

  3. Good idea. Just hope the chicken doesn't have diseases. [IMG]
