I think part of the problem might be that your first ducks imprinted on you. You might have been trained by them to let them out after a couple of hours, but believe me for safety reasons, they can be penned much longer. I think when you first get them, set up a separate area for introductions where they can see each other, but after awhile take down the barrier to see how they do.
