Should I get another rooster?

Hello everybody

I just have a quick question. My sister and I have a little hobby coop with 11 hens (different breeds) and a single rooster (Dwarf wyandot).
Our plan is to get some fertilized eggs this season.

Our rooster is just about 6-7 months old, and he is very shy towards the ladies.

My question is, if you think I should get another rooster.
He's smaller than 10 of our hens, and he is in the bottom of the hierarchy in the flock.

Today I saw he attempted to pair a couple of the hens, but every time he was chased away by another hen.
He was successfully on top of a single hen, but he didn't seem to being able to 'reach'. Do you think he is too small or too shy to pair my hens?

He may be too small or he just may be too young. Only time will answer that question. If you decide to add another rooster, have a 'Plan B' in mind as they will very likely fight.

Are you thinking of replacing your cockerel or adding a second one? Bringing a sexually mature male into a flock with a resident sexually mature male is a fine recipe for big trouble.
How large is your hobby coop and how much space do you have in the run?
The pullets rejecting the advances of your cockerel is pretty normal. He needs to win them over and gain experience before they accept him.

And you don’t think it’s because he’s too small? There are different breeds of pullets in the coop (Le Bresse, Italians, Plymouth Rocks, grünlegger, königsberger, Isa Brown). And he’s a dwarf Wyandot)

There are many people who have bantam roosters successfully breed LF chickens. However, they are roosters and hens, not cockerels and pullets. He is never going to be large enough to force them to accept him. He has to earn it.

Thanks for the answer. I didn’t know pullets and hens weren’t the same thing. I’m from Denmark so I just asumed they were the same thing

He's just getting his start as a proper male at his age.
He is definitely not too small, they find a way believe me they do lol!
The girls would be rejecting him if he was standard size, a millionaire and the most handsome rooster on earth it is just their way of making sure he is really up for the job.

Wait until he’s bigger. If you have about ten hens or more you could get another.
