Should I get more chickens?

it depends on how big your coop is and how clean it is if you have had chickens previously i would definetly get more chickens just remember to treat them for worms and mites.:)

Quote: Your coop will NEVER be too big. If you decide that 6 chickens is enough for you, then you'll have plenty of other options for the extra space. The issue with Polish is that they have the "every day is a bad hair day" thing going on. Sometimes that makes them a target for bullying by birds that are predjudiced against birds that don't look like them. They also are at a disadvantage if their top feathers hang over their eyes so they are not as aware of predators. The fact that you are planning a nice big coop will be helpful for your Polish gals. Be sure to include options for multiple height areas, as well as out of line of sight areas. My favorite is 3 hay bales aligned with 2 down, one over to make a pyramid with a tunnel between the 2 bottom bales.

the bigger the coop the harder it is to heat so i would put a wall inside your coop to make it a little smaller or get 20 chickens so their body heat heats the coop and the other chickens in the coop cause ei have a 12x16 coop and i have 13 chickens and they are plenty warm but i don't think it should be a problem as long as you get enough chickens.

Quote: Go as big as you can, then you can split coop into separate sections for main coop, grow out/isolation, storage, etc.
Plan separate people doors for each section.
Never too big!

Fallacy...very rarely is there a need to heat a coop........and proper ventilation makes 'holding heat' moot.

you do need to heat the coop in the winter cause the eggs will freeze. also so will your water.

8x16 isn't that big.
My 6x16 coop is in a 16x16 shed....wish I had more room for more pens, but the undercover storage and egg gathering is priceless.

well that is a little big for 10 hens but it the summer it will pay off when its summer the smaller the coop the hotter it gets.
