Should I get rid of my hen?

It might have been something not quite right with the black chick. However, layers can be mean and fast. If you can't see the chicks, that is a good sign, it means they have all figured it out. And things should go well now. The chicks know who mama is, and where warm and safe is, and who to stay away from.

Go ahead and put out multiple feed bowls, but do not put it close to the nest. The broody and the chicks are capable and should be getting up and going to get feed and water. Lots of things will eat chicken food, and you don't want them next to the nest.

This will be Earline's new home for a while. She has been free ranging all day and I left it open for her. I just checked on her and she was inside and had laid an egg so I think she likes it.
