We had a hen go broody but when the eggs got close to hatching time she gave up and left the eggs. I figured she would come back but she lost interest in them. I moved them under a heat lamp and so far one egg has hatched.
I put the eggs in there not realizing that they could not be turned until it was too late. When I woke up this morning one chick had started trying to hatch but the egg was the wrong way. I turned it. There doesn’t appear to be a pipping hole and it’s been an hour. The egg is rocking and I can feel it moving inside the egg but should I poke a little hole where it started to make one? So it can breathe?

The membrane is still covering that one area... I don’t want to kill it by trying to help it. I have read that they slowly stop the blood flow around the egg and then come out. But is it suffocating? Should I poke a tiny hole for air? I don’t want it to die because it’s the last egg from that batch.
