is it wise to let my turkey hen hatch chicken eggs? she is so sweet and cute on "her babys" that i dont think i can take them away from her

I have no idea if it's wise or not...but heck, if she's faithfully sitting on them, and you have no other need for the eggs (eating or hatching) what is to be lost in letting her try? You might discover that you have a wonderful and reliable incubator of the organic kind!

And from what you say, it would make her very happy. Does this little girl have a name? Any pictures of her on her nest that you could post?

I don't know about turkeys raising chicks. I know I have heard of some disease that chickens can give to turkeys. I don't know what it is ... I have no turkey experience.

Why not go ahead and let her brood some eggs, then take the chicks as they are hatched?

Good luck, what ever you decide. Is that turkey in your avatar ... the broody one?

How are things coming along with your turkey?? I was glad to see you post as I too have alot of turkey questions!

Today my Clara was in the nesting box when I got home. Usually when I call her she comes running. Tonight she would NOT leave the box. I finally reached under her and there were two chicken eggs and she was very upset that I took them! We have recently gotten a Tom who is her faithful follower. I have not seen any "romance" but all of a sudden she wants to sit on eggs! She usually lays me an egg a day and she has not laid any for the last two days so I am not sure if she is getting ready to lay a bunch or if she is stopping!? Not sure what to do except leave her alone and see what happens!

i wouldn't let her set on chicken eggs because it went bad for me (the chicks got crushed due to having a mom 4x too heavy) and if you want her to hatch her own eggs you should try to break her up cuz if she goes broody she will likely stop laying, i attached my follow up post, my girl is better now but her recovery has been slow, painful and difficult to watch and she has not laid an egg since.
