Should I provide day/night cycles for my Peeps?

I've had my 7-day-old peepers for two days. I started with a clear bulb but switched to a red one yesterday. With the clear bulb, they were frequently sleepy but woke easily. With the red bulb they are pretty much sacked out each time I go in to check on them. They are just babies, babies sleep a lot, right? And they wake up readily and are alert if I disturb them at all.

Right now they have the red bulb in a darkened room. I could open the windows, but I don't want the room to get too hot in the afternoon. Or I could turn on the overhead light now that it's daytime and turn it off when the sun goes down to simulate a diurnal cycle. Is this necessary or are they better off getting in as much sack time as possible?

I have used the red light this time but since mine our outside in the coop in their brooder they do get light/dark cycle, I am not sure it matters since it should get light in the room and then dark at night. If you want you can open the curtains/blinds a little to let extra light in, if they get to warm they should move away from the lamp. I know mine love to lay under the sun. Good luck.

My babies r in a big brooder in the basement. Unfortunately there is no direct light into them unless the weather is good enough that I can open the garage door. So I have a worklight hanging with their red heat lamp and if it's a dreary day I turn that light on in the morning and off at night to help them.
