I have one chick as of this morning!
I started a new thread here
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=181970. It had a rough go of it, but it's doing fine now (I think).
One thing I must mention is that I noticed something weird about one of it's eyes. I thought that maybe there was some membrane still stuck to it so I took it out of the bator for a closer look at it turned out to be a jagged little piece of shell under it's eyelids!
I quickly got a moistened q-tip and worked it out from under the lids and it looks just fine now, not closed or weeping so I think it's ok. Thank goodness I noticed or it may have caused an infection down the road.
Now, I'm just praying that 1 of the 3 eggs that are left in the bator will hatch so this poor little thing will have a friend. It seems kinda lonely and lost. It loves to be wrapped up in a warm towel and snuggled and it responds to my voice as soon as it hears me. Too cute!
Cross your fingers that we get 1 more! Congratulations on your new grandson and your new chicks! Lot of love going around! I had no idea this was so fun! I guess they are tougher than we think to survive through the such temp changes. Mind you, I only have 1 out of 15!
