should I try a batch of meat birds?

Just think -- one rooster added to 8 laying hens, and you could've had a virtually endless supply of meat.

We started with 12 chicks, and now have over 50 chickens. Just cleaned a Black Jersey Giant a couple of hours ago for Sunday dinner.

Carousel - I'm really glad you posted this. I'm in the same boat as you. I really want to run some meat birds but I'm in the burbs and also have those dreaded deed restrictions to deal with. I'm going to do it though, maybe in the Spring. I will have to go pretty stealth. Right now I'm building a stealth coop for some layers and will get that going first.

Please keep us informed of your progress. Maybe post up some pics.
