I have my own opinion about how long eggs can go before getting sat on. I have had hens lay up to 18 eggs before and hatch them all. Now we all know that usually a hen lays one egg a day. And I know for a fact that hen laid only one a day cause I counted each and every one when she would lay them ( I was a kid and very curious ) . She sat on those eggs and hatched out every single one of them. I always found it interesting, that she could make those eggs wait 18 days in the summer heat before she sat on them to hatch them.

thats so great! congrats! Iv been saving eggs to put in the bator had eggs in the bator so I had to wait till they hatched cause I didnt want a staggered hatch. So this gives me some hope on my eggies!

Final update

I set 90 eggs the oldest were 19 days old (laid 2/22/09

38 Silver Laced Wyandottes From our flock

38 Mixed Red Layers From our flock

14 Cuckoo Marans from Ginasmarans

at day 15 I candled and removed 21 eggs that weren't developing (69 remaining)

We hatched 45 chicks

19 Silver Laced Wyandottes hatched 1 had a very bad leg and was culled (oldest hatched were laid 2/22/09 then 2/23/09

16 Mixed Red Layers hatched 1 had a bug eye and was very weak so we culled him

10 Cuckoo Marans hatched 1 was pecked to death at day 1
1 was culled because he was very weak and could barely walk

50% hatch rate from all set eggs

65% hatch rate on eggs that were developing at day 15 (I should have candled earlier)
