Should I turn them in? (Animal cruelty?)

Maybe these folks were overwhelmed and needed a little volunteer help. Also might give them a clue they are being neglectful. I have actually met animal keepers that did not realize they were being cruel to their animals give them a gentle nudge if they don't pick up the hint turn them in.

Good thing you did it!
It's not really turning them in IMO, it's like getting a higher authority to get them to do something.. Like a kid who won't clean their room until mommy comes by and tells the kid "You need to clean your room. If not, I will ground you" or any other type of punishment, ehm taking away xbox or whatever. Another real life example :
I have kookoo neighbors, they must dislike me or something. They reported us on our ducks, claiming our ducks water was dirty. Uneducated ofcourse. Animal control came over and said "that's not healthy", well I didn't have the chance to change it as I was in the middle of feeding the chickens and ducks. I told them about how ducks make the water dirty quicker than ever, gave them a little info on ducks, and they nodded. When I did change the water the officers watched the ducks play in it and were amused. One said "oh wow they poop in their water".
After animal control left I saw someone at their house watching.
People out there are crazy, my family has expirienced this type of crazy unfortunately. Some people will take revenge on you for some of the littlest reasons. You stop giving someone food and they pop your car's tires.

ducks+water= dirty water. takes about a minute.
and I do have one turkey with a permanent limp.

but if the animals didn't look healthy to you, sometimes a call is the right thing.
ETA, I'm a fan of speaking to folks first. sure, you don't know if they're nutballs or not until you talk to them. but I think there's far to much "reporting" of people, and far to little "talking" to people in general.

Please contact the owner first about your concerns. what if they were understaffed on that day?
You have no idea how stressing it is to have authorities crawling all over your place because of a complaint. I knew of a fella in this area that had his horses removed because one (a thoroughbred) was very skinny compared to the others and his pen was muddy. It was discovered that the authority figure handling this case actually had little experience with horses....

Please give the owners a chance to make things better before putting them in the hot seat. It is not a fun place to be. You can always visit again soon to make sure your voice was heard.

The OP reported what was believed to be a case of Animal Cruelty, it was investigated and substantiated by the Animal Control Officers. No one on BYC saw the environment in person so the name calling was way over the top here.
