should I use BOTH Hardware Cloth AND Chicken wire?

cajunlizz asked:
What exactly is the cost for a roll of say 50 ft. and 100 ft. of hardware cloth ?

From what I've seen on here is that there is a huge difference in price all around the country in hardware cloth.

We just bought a roll of 48"x12ft. on sale at Home Depot for about $9.00.

if you bought 5 rolls of this at 9.00 a roll , Do the math , 12 ft. x 5 = 60 ft. of hardware cloth would cost you $ 45.00 PLUS TAX . ....

Hubby bought 24 inch tall . roll of 150 ft. of 2 inch chicken wire for 19.99 at lowe's .... YOU CAN NOT BEAT THAT , UNLESS you lucky as he was also to buy 4 ft. x 50 ft. 1x2 squares for 3.00 at the flea market ...

Thanks for the input! decisions decisions!

I saw 2 bales of 30 feet of 1/2inch cloth at TSC for 16.99 each.
That would just about do my whole pen.. the sides. My pen would only need 2 sides covered with wire as the garage is one side and the shed is another.

I had it figured out as needing 32 feet.. but maybe I will shrink it a bit. I still need to stake and string it out.

I am getting 4X4X8 posts... planning on putting them 12 inches in the soil. I also bought some Quickete (Concrete) DO I really need to concrete the posts, or do you think tons of rocks in the post hole is good.. along with the rest of the dirt?

I bought the 2X4X8's today. Didn't have room in my car for the posts. So bought the big order instead. Like I said, I still need to stake it out.. AND dig the holes.

I will take pictures for sure!

Hubby used the landscape treaded timers for all the posts and Dug the whole perimeter of the coop and run , 12 inches deep and buried wire tru out . COOP is 2 ft. off the ground . So this way , chickens can take shelter under the coop when needed from rain .

TRUST ME when I tell you , MAKE it larger than smaller . WE just finished 2 weeks ago our COOP 8 x 12 RUN is 12 x 20 and hubby is now getting chickens offered to him free , which is hard to pass up .
SO , wish we had made the coop 12 x 12 and run 12 x 30

Home Depot near me has lots of HW cloth on clearance. Some sizes are being discontinued they said. You should check and see we saved big!!

I was at Home Depot today.. seems TSC had the better deal on hardware cloth.

I hope to eventually expand my run.. but to keep the peace between DH and myself, I am going with 16X8.

It's been raining here since I got home with the lumber. I was going to pace out the run today, but guess I will do it tomorrow.
