Same here.I have to worm mine twice a year. Otherwise they get worms, without fail.
I'm not trying to sound mean here, at all, so please don't take it that way. But it's not really the responsibility of the company you bought the chicks from to completely educate you in their care beyond the basics. Many companies/hatcheries will give basic care information only, the rest is up to you. Since you are planning on bringing in more chicks in the spring it would also be a good idea to read up on coccidiosis, if you are not already familiar with that, so you can be prepared to treat if necessary.Hi Dawg
I'm truly grateful for your advice. I've just managed to locate a supplier of the flubenvet. I am sooooooooooooooo angry that the supplier of our chooks didn't tell us that they needed worming. I could be wrong but the symptoms Keira showed was akin to gapeworm..but I may just be surmising.
When I spoke to Omlet this morning (we are getting another four chooks in April) I told her that the chap that delivered them said all they need is the food they supplied, clean water and shade from heat... nothing else... the response? Oh he must have forgotten to tell you that.
Anyway once again a great big thanks... I only come on this site when I have problems.... Maybe I should take some time to look at the site in more detail...
I am sorry you lost your hen, it may not even have been worms. There are many things it could have been that have similar symptoms and without having had a necropsy done there's no way to know for sure.
