Should Moana be renamed to Maui (pullet or cockerel?)

Hi.

Likely is Maui with a comb that big at 5 weeks.

It also seems pinkish but hard to tell with no brood mates right next to him.

Thanks all! That was my guess! Looks like Maui is going to have to find a new home. He is so sweet. He loves to be held like a baby.

Umm... until he hits mating age and becomes your biggest nightmare because he doesn't have any fear of you, and fear equals respect in the chicken world.

I have made this mistake and my lap boy rushes me at the fence and goes at me from behind if he gets the chance. He tried to pull a hen out of my lap once. He is on the menu now and the ONLY boy I ever had issues like this with. Of course not all will be the same, but it wouldn't surprise me.

The cockerels are so confident and fun to let hang out, I really love them. But now I know to make sure, for my best chance at success, to not let them be to friendly towards me at their young age but to teach them to step out of my way and avoid me.

He may not ever develop that issue or he may not develop it at his new home since they were not the ones he was sitting on.

Either way, good luck finding him a new home and don't forget there is no shame (maybe even a little honor) in letting him feed someone else's family!
