I bet the fact that she gets treats here helps immenselyAwww!!! She looks like she’s super happy with you!
I have such a soft spot for them, but you are right, it could absolutely be one of the worst things a person ends up doing for a lot of reasons. I’ve seen horror stories, and I wouldn’t have done this if it wasn’t a chicken from close proximity. This was two years ago now, and this chicken ended up being one of the best decisions we made, luckily. And I don’t say that lightly, because we did get lucky with her.Don’t ever take birds you feel sorry for.
You would be basically doubling your flock. But it does sound like you the space, and if you can see them through the fence, no need to quarantine. There are roll away nests to protect eggs.
Thank you for saying that! I agree! I do hope to one day be able to do more rescuing. What a nice story. I'm so glad that it worked out for little Ravioli. I know there are always risks to rescueing, but it can be so rewarding.
Well now your words, “Don’t ever take birds you feel sorry for” will echo in my head when I see a bird that needs a home, so probably good you commented lol I needed to hear that. Just the other day the humane society advertised a cute little Cochin rooster for adoption. Now, I know I can’t have roosters in the city, but do you think I still tried to find a way that it could possibly work???For some reason, I just miss it when it is an old thread, it was the first time a saw it, after I posted I saw there were pages of responses, my post was behind the cart. I should have deleted
I had to laugh out loud at this. When I was at the rescue picking up 3 hens, they had an adorable bantam Cochin Roo that I couldn't get out of my head. Also not allowed here, but lots of wishful thinking. I do agree that Mrs k's advice is generally sound. You can get a boatload of trouble that way.Well now your words, “Don’t ever take birds you feel sorry for” will echo in my head when I see a bird that needs a home, so probably good you commented lol I needed to hear that. It’s terrible having a soft spot for chickens, isn’t it? If there were no rules, I’d certainly have them coming out my ears.I had to laugh out loud at this.
