Show me Hatchery silkies

When our Bloomsburg TSC had them last year I believe they were in a bin listed as assorted bantams. We figured out from looking at them that they were white Silkies. I actually loved those birds better than any I bought from Show breeders. They were very white and fluffy but I could see their faces and they could see. They seemed to be much nicer than my SQ birds which I attributed to being able to see. Now my show bred Silkies were gorgeous, but I just preferred the birds from TSC because of the eyes not being totally covered. When I called TSC they only told me they had assorted banties, they didn't seem to know that the chicks were Silkies. You might have to go in and look for yourself. At least with a bin full to choose from you can pick the ones with the traits you prefer.

Yes I have some nonbearded white silkies. I love them my hen is the sweetest. I might go see DH will kill me though haha

I got four eggs in the bator don't know what they look like but they came from Chapel Farm. I hope they're as nice as what she's got. Have a look.

You get eggs from her and your very fortunate.

Hi I'm new here. I have one silkie hen (had 2 but one didn't make it) that I bought last spring from someone who ordered quite a few and allowed me to take one of them when they were delivered. I think they were overnighted from Florida and I'm in Oregon! Anyway, they were supposedly show quality silkies? At the same time I bought 2 chicks from the local Grange Co-op, one is a barred rock and the other a black sex link. I love all 3 so much that this year I wanted a few more. I absolutely adore my silkie whose name is Dharma, so I was very excited when I asked at the Grange this year and they said they were actually getting one delivery of silkies in. I was there first thing in the morning when they arrived and I picked out 4 of them!

What I am wondering is, will these look pretty much the same as my other silkie? I guess I'm mostly wondering about the fluff on top of their heads. If I remember correctly the 2 I got last year had quite a bit of that even when they were chicks...I mean I could tell they were going to have the ball of fluff on top of their head. But the 4 I got this year dont' have that like the others did. They are a month old now and getting feathers, and I do see a few longer pieces on some of their heads. So I guess I'm wondering if store-bought silkies may not have that like a supposed "show quality" one? These 4 do have the 5 toes and black skin, and 2 have tons of feathers on their legs/feet and the other 2 have some but just less. My one little white girl looks like she has flippers on cuz they're so long on her feet!

I'd love to post some pics of them but I'm not sure how to do that! As I'm writing this message I see "Img" at the top which I assumed was for image but it doesn't let me choose a picture when I click on it. I'll browse around and see if I can find out how to upload some. I'd love to share them with all of you. This is SUCH a fantastic site!

Thanks and

I love this site also. Check it at least once a day. On the top of your screen you will see index, user list, rules, search, and so on. You will then see uploads and that's what you need to click on. Yes your store bought silkies will probably not have the same amount of fluff. Breeders that breed show quality get the best of the best and are very picky on the ones they breed. I would think hatchery don't do that but I've never got any before. Mine was sent out yesterday so wish me luck!

I got my chicks today they sent me 2 extras,17 total. 5 of which have a white toe. Will it turn black? I remember reading about some on here but I forget what they said about it. Only 4-5 have a good top hat.

Ive had some pink toes darken with age

and I would recommend cackle for hatchery type silkies (imo they arn't as bad as ideals)
