Looking for what everyone is using for watering their flock...

Current large waterer collects sticks/leaves etc...I tried a hanging waterer with the little tips that they are supposed to peck at-they have zero interest..

Looking for anything to avoid the slime and debris that gets in our current waterer...

Show me your solutions!!!:celebrate

We use a horizontal nipple waterer for chickens, plus a duck waterer that is hooked up to a rain barrel so it constantly refills. Our guineas are ridiculously spoiled - they really like a stainless steel water bowl that I dump and refill every day, plus a standard plastic lip waterer (what are those called?). Guineas also have nipple waterers but they don’t like them so have to be desperate to use them.

I️ used large totes for the water but was then gifted a hanging waterer. My chickens had absolutely zero interest in it at first, but I️ continued to fill it up each week and give them the option of using it. Eventually I️ started to ween them off the totes by removing a couple and letting the full ones run out of water (I️ kept a close eye on them to make sure they weren’t getting dehydrated) and kept tapping on the metal nipples each day. Soon after, I️ started catching a few of them using it. Now that it is hot outside, the water is evaporating and I️ can’t keep it full enough for all the chickens, so I️ put the totes back out there. They now prefer the hanging waterer over the totes 100%. I️ feel like it’s good to keep the option of other water sources. I️ have realized through this process that chickens rely on patterns so they won’t go straight to the hanging water, you will have to train them. Hope all goes well, good luck!

Can you put a lid on your nipple water? Ours came with a lid, and it has little stopper in it so you can tefill. I throughly clean it once a week, and just fill the rest. Might have to alter that schedule when it gets hot! But the lid keeps everything out, water in!

Yes we keep a lid on ours and refill it with hose by removing the stopper. I️ have had it for about a year now and I️ cleaned it when we got it. It is in 100% sunlight all day, everyday and we have never had a problem with algae growth. Every once in awhile, I️ will rinse it out with the hose to remove any debris that might’ve been stuck to the hose and gotten into the waterer.
