Delawares are my favorite breed. I ordered from a hatchery to get started. They were good birds and everyone needs a place to start. After that you begin to meet like minded "chicken people" and I was able to get a BEAUTIFUL rooster and start breeding my own for my needs. We don't show but we do want lots of eggs and a meaty, tame bird that the kids can handle.
We got all three in this WONDERFUL breed!
OH and one last thing. My old lazy farm dog did not get ONE tick last year. Probably because my girls gobbled them all up!
Most of you know my hatchery Dels were a nightmare. My breeder ones are quite the opposite, though I culled the rooster due to a comb flaw and an attitude problem (rooster issue, not Delaware issue). I lost one to a freak heart defect, but my remaining girl is a treasure. Big chunky, sweet, and lays an egg every single morning, same time, which is unusual. I will be expanding the flock in a month or so with a new hatch of quality Delawares. If I didnt have this dang broken ankle, I'd take updated pics of Kira for you.
