The feeders that I am in to, help to preserve food, while making sure that it's large enough so they have enough food for while I'm gone during vacation, trips etc.

You can set a shallow pan on this, and this would be kept warm by the lightbulb:

And then there is always this option, which can be plugged in and kept warm. I always find that these are more reliable than homemade ones. I would rather have a pan because it's easier to change out the water, and sometimes the water can freeze so you can't unscrew the lid
