Yes that is for them to take a swim.lol no they don't have any trouble getting in or out. the only trouble we had was our English Orpington roo got in it and died before we could get out to him.:(

Ok. That is an great set up. Sorry about your Orpington. I would be afraid of the same thing with my chickens.
