Hey guys, first time poster and I have to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone in this forum! You guys have taught me so much!

My recently frozen(~week) whole cornish Xs seemed to turn a strange, darker color once frozen. Is this normal or is it something I did wrong? Freezer burn? Not dry enough? It may sound stupid, but I've never frozen a whole bird before. They just dont look appetizing to me. And of course I'm concerned about the appeal of the package when we sell in the future. Any ideas/tips/advice?

Can you guys show me examples(I'm a picture guy!) of what your frozen birds look like?

lol I just looked through all my pictures in the last 7 years and apparently I have never taken a picture of a frozen bird. I even looked through our farm's social media pages. I guess that speaks to your point that they don't look incredibly appetizing. Ours looks exactly like yours when they come out of the freezer. I have noticed the skin darkens when frozen, but rest assured it will go back to a normal color when it thaws. I'm not sure what it happens.

Lol you aren't lying! I tried to do a google search for frozen chicken and seems like noone posts the frozen product, just the more appealing fresh one! I saw what ours looked like and I thought man these things look bad!

I just noticed this with the last batch I put up, they turned quite dark and reddish. I'm sure it's normal, but it is a little surprising.

Thanks! Yes it took me back a bit when i saw them after a couple days in the freezer. I wonder if there are any techniques to prevent this.

I don't know what could prevent it... I kind of wondered with my own if it was because I use the broomstick method rather than slicing their neck and bleeding them, but I really don't feel like they hold more blood that way, even though some claim they do. I did rest them in ice water for three days too, so if they HAD extra blood, one would assume it would have leeched out. Perhaps if one soaked in salt water it would do more? Or not.
I do have some Cornish X in the freezer that I did bleed out, I'll dig them up and take a picture tonight if I get time. They are parted in pieces, but I'm sure that shouldn't really make a difference.
