Hi,
I recently went through the whole thing about buying new mixing bowls. I have a lot of Tupperware (that I love) but I understand it's not good for whipping egg whites, as plastic tends to retain a bit of grease no matter how well you wash it. And beating egg whites will not work well with even traces of grease. Also, I don't believe the plastic will chill well, which is essential to whipped cream.
So my choices were pottery, ceramic, glass or stainless steel. Since I am a "klutz" and don't have a lot of storage, I quickly eliminated the breakable ones. So that left me with the stainless steel. The problem with those is that you can't put them in the microwave, but I have other things for that. So I purchased a set of beautiful OXO stainless steel bowls that are covered in white plastic on the outside and had a non-slip rubberized base. They are great bowls but...then I realized they can't go into the oven. I should have thought about this a bit more before I bought these.
So I bought two more all stainless bowls as, many times, I prepare foods somewhat ahead of time (such as mashed potatoes) and leave them in a warm oven until the rest of the dinner is ready.
Now I have too many bowls but I am making the best of it, as they are all nice and I do use them.
My suggestion is to carefully think over what you will be using your new bowl for so that you make the best choice.
Good luck!
