Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

Just a little update on the two pallets I picked up with solid plywood tops a week or so ago. I finished taking apart both pallets and ended up with 2 sheets of plywood that are in really good shape.

The first is a 43X43 inch 1/2-inch plywood...

This second piece was a pleasant surprise. I thought I had a couple pieces of 1/2-inch plywood sandwiched together, but when I took the pallet apart, I discovered that I had a really nice piece of solid 3/4-inch plywood measuring 23X59 inches....

Neither of these pallets used 2X4 stretchers, only those Euro blocks. Now I have a small collection of those pallet blocks and have no idea what to use them for. If anyone has a suggestion, let me know. If not, they will probably end up in the burn barrel to burn out a stump in the backyard.

Google picture of the type of Euro pallet with blocks instead of 2X4 stretchers....

:tongue I am not a big fan of the Euro block pallet construction. I have lots of uses for 2X4 stretchers, but have no idea what to do with those Euro blocks after I take the pallet apart.

BTW, and I have mentioned this before, I used my portable workbench pallet rig on this project. It's nothing more than a full pallet mounted on my tow behind cart. All I did was screw in some 2X4's to the bottom of the pallet so the pallet would not slip off the cart as I drive around the yard. When I don't need the pallet wood benchtop, I just pull it up and off. It's a stupid simple pallet project but one I use all the time.

:old Using the pallet wood portable benchtop on my cart allows me to work on the pallets, wood projects, etc... without having to bend over all the time. Very nice when you reach a certain age.

I have mentioned before that one should really wear a good pair of gloves when working with pallets and pallet wood to avoid getting nasty splinters. I have a number of different leather gloves, but today I saw that Menards is having a sale on their inexpensive Leather Palm Work Gloves. I usually get a couple years out of a pair of these gloves before they fall apart. But they are pretty good, have the leather where you need it, and they are low cost. Even better, on sale now through 9/24/23....

Anyways, I will be buying a few more pairs of these work gloves, and maybe a few more for stock.

No Menard's here!
:hit

Yeah, I feel that way when someone mentions a great deal at Lowe's, which the closest store for me is about 130 miles away. :tongue

Unfortunately, Menards does not have a very good online shipping policy and most items cost more to ship to your house than you would pay for the product. However, sometimes they have specials that will ship for free. Depends on the item, I guess.

⚠️ Flash Sale on Kreg Crosscut Station at Menards

This Kreg Crosscut Station popped up on my emails a few days ago. It's another flash sale from Menards, so limited quantities and limited time to get one if you want. I almost always use my miter saw on a stand for cutting up my boards. But sometimes I need to cut straight boards out in the yard, away from the garage and corded power. This Kreg Crosscut Station is a portable solution to get more accurate cuts then what I can freehand with my portable circular saw.

Here is the Kreg promo video on the Crosscut Station.....

These Kreg Crosscut Stations were selling for $50 on Amazon a few months ago. It's pretty highly rated. So, this sale at Menards is a great deal if you want or need something like this.

I ordered one from Menards. My idea is that maybe I can break down some of my pallets with the circular saw method, cutting the pallet wood planks between the 2X4 stretchers, and then cutting the planks into finished 16-inch lengths with the crosscut station right there where I cut up the pallet. I use 16-inch pallet wood plank pieces to build my 16-inch-high pallet wood raised beds. If it works out, it would save me some time and effort from hauling all the wood to the garage and cutting it up there. Not a big deal, but for $10 I'm going to give it a try.

Update: I put together my Kreg Crosscut Station yesterday and it is a really nice jig. For the money, and you can still get it at that price shipped to store, I don't think you could build a jig with all those nice features like the additional clamps and angle guide.

I am considering buying another box for use with one of my other saws. I have 4 different circular saws, but unfortunately, they all have different sized bases which would mean that they would have different keff cuts in the jig. I'm afraid I would quickly get confused which line was for what saw, line it up wrong on the kerf cut, and miscut the board.

Also, you have to have the "fixed" rail on the opposite side of the blade. I have both right and left handed saws. So, the rails would also have to be swapped out for the other sided saw. It's probably easier just to get another Kreg Crosscut Station at $10 and be done with it.

At any rate, there is probably no way you could build a DIY crosscut station of this quality for only $10.00.

Sorry, don't want to get off track, but this was the TH near me. I asked, and yes, someone did drive through it. :lau

As a friend of mine would have said, "Unclear on the concept."

:lau Well, at least there is a pallet on the lower right side of the pictures with bags piled on it.
